Stadsontwikkeling Amsterdam 1975-2025

Oude wijken zijn vernieuwd, de stad is uitgebreid met compacte laagbouw en hoogbouw en havengebieden zijn getransformeerd naar nieuwe woonwijken. De zakelijke dienstverlening verplaatste zich grotendeels naar de randen van de stad, onder andere naar de Zuidas. Tegelijkertijd ontwikkelde de binnenstad zich tot een ontmoetingsplek met een concentratie van cultuur, horeca, toerisme én nieuwe innovatieve bedrijven. De transformaties leggen de veerkracht van de stad bloot, maar brengen ook allerlei uitdagingen met zich mee: kan Amsterdam een leefbare en toegankelijke stad blijven? Boeiend beschrijft De Hoog hoe stedenbouw en ruimtelijke ordening antwoorden formuleren op de stormachtige groei. Tot slot werpt hij een blik op de toekomst: wat zouden de komende vijftig jaar Amsterdam kunnen brengen?.
